US OPEN CAPOEIRA TOURNAMENT 2009

To the GREAT CAPOEIRA community; We, from the US OPEN CAPOEIRA organization are inviting everyone to participate in the US OPEN Capoeira Tournament that will take place in New York City this coming October 2009. After two successful tournaments in California we have decided to go to the East Coast.

The past two events in California were full of joy and positive interaction among all the Capoeira players. The idea with this tournament is to bring everybody together regardless of group affiliation to compete in a type of tournament that the ultimate goal is to make Capoeira the winner. This is, definitely, not group against group, or style against style; it is about being creative and willing to contribute to a healthy interaction among all the Capoeira players and schools. That is how it is done with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and this art keeps growing. I have been to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments where there were 1,500 competitors, 300 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu schools and these events ran smoothly with a great deal of respect among the teachers who share the ultimate goal of making their art respected and recognized. In fact the last PAN AM GAMES Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament held in Los Angeles this past March 2009, had a record of 2500 competitors. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was the bigger winner and the art of Jiu Jitsu keeps growing and gaining the respect of everyone.

We, Capoeira students, teachers and mestres can do the same and even better. Let's meet in New York for a great event, full of very creative, energetic and positive people demonstrate amazing games. Let's show our potential, display our talent and share the joy and magic of Capoeira.

This year the US OPEN Capoeira Tournament is offering awards and cash prizes for each division's 1st places.

The US OPEN CAPOEIRA TOURNAMENT will take place on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the Saint Mark's Church in the Bowery, 131 E. 10th Street, New York, NY
